Accessible Portable Toilet Hire in Liverpool

Providing accessible toilet facilities is a legal requirement at public events under the Equality Act 2010, and a welfare requirement on construction sites serving workers with accessibility needs. Our accessible portable toilet units are larger than standard units, fitted with grab rails, non-slip flooring and wide-access doors, and are delivered and positioned to ensure level or ramp access.

We supply accessible units across Liverpool and Merseyside for events, construction sites, public gatherings and any application where standard units do not meet the needs of all users.

Unit Specification

Our accessible portable toilets provide a larger internal footprint than standard units — sufficient to accommodate a wheelchair user and a carer where required. Features include a stainless steel grab rail to the side and rear of the toilet, a non-slip floor surface, a wide-access door opening to minimum 750mm clear width, and an internal emergency pull cord where specified.

Units are serviced to the same schedule as standard hire — weekly on site contracts, or before and after for event hire.

Event Obligations Under the Equality Act

The Equality Act 2010 places a duty on event organisers to make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled people can access events on the same basis as others. Providing accessible toilet facilities is explicitly part of this duty. The recommended provision is one accessible unit per 100 attendees at outdoor events, in addition to standard toilet provision (Purple Guide to Health, Safety and Welfare at Music and Other Events, 2023).

Positioning and Access

An accessible toilet unit is only useful if it can be reached. We work with event organisers to ensure units are positioned on level or gently graded ground with clear access from the main circulation routes. We can also provide portable ramp sections where necessary to address minor level changes at the unit entrance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many accessible units do I need for my event?

The Purple Guide recommends one accessible unit per 100 attendees as a starting point. For events with a higher proportion of disabled attendees, or where the event is specifically aimed at disabled audiences, increase this ratio. Call us to discuss your specific event.

Are your accessible units suitable for wheelchair users?

Yes. Our accessible units have a wider door opening and a larger internal space than standard portable toilets, and are specified for wheelchair access. We can provide a full unit specification sheet on request.

Can accessible units be positioned anywhere?

Accessible units need level or near-level ground for safe ramp access. We'll discuss the site with you before delivery to identify the best placement. On sloped sites we can sometimes use compacted hardcore or timber to create a level platform.
